Birdlife Plett

The vision of BirdLife South Africa is to see a country and region where nature and people live in greater harmony, more equitably and sustainably. BirdLife South Africa’s mission is to strive to conserve birds, their habitats and biodiversity through scientifically-based programmes, through supporting the sustainable and equitable use of natural resources and through encouraging people to enjoy and value nature.

Eden to Addo Corridor Initiative

The vision is to link three mega-reserves, namely the Garden Route National Park, The Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve and the Addo Elephant National Park by means of natural corridors to protect and restore the integrity of bio-diversity and eco-system functioning. We assist and engage landowners and all stakeholders to identify and develop a living corridor from Eden to Addo by applying sound land-use practices, encouraging a diversity of environmentally sustainable livelihoods and linking ecological important areas, for the benefit of biodiversity and the extended community.

Garden Route Bioshpere Reserve

Work undertaken in the GRBR partnership through the C.A.P.E. programme includes systematic fine scale biodiversity planning, consolidating protected areas in the critical lowlands and marine areas, promoting conservation stewardship among private landowners, and working towards promoting growth in the number of jobs, training and entrepreneurial opportunities through biodiversity management, sustainable natural resource use and responsible tourism.

At Garden Route Initiative, we have a multi-disciplinary team of qualified professionals and volunteers that ensure that our efforts to conserve the environment are sustainable and effective.

Garden Route Botanical Gardens Trust

Curate and build up the herbarium collection. Establish facilities for research and education to the broadest possible spectrum of the community. House and catalogue the Herbarium collections in accordance with herbaria norms worldwide. Develop awareness of the flora of the region, and identify the importance of the flora to enable communities to gain a better understanding of the value of regional flora with regard to environmental health. Instill a better conservation ethic in the region to the benefit of the community and the environment as a whole.

Knysna Basin Project

Knysna Basin Project is a scientifically based non-profit organisation focused on continued research in the Knysna Basin.

We aim to create and stimulate public and learner awareness and appreciation of the estuary.

Nature’s Valley Trust

Nature’s Valley Trust is a small community driven NPO working at the cutting edge of integrated conservation in South Africa. We operate in four main arenas, namely Conservation, Education, Community and Research.

Pledge Nature Reserve

Pledge Nature Reserve was declared in terms of a Provincial Government Gazette Notice of 11 October 1991 a Local Nature Reserve and covers approximately 10ha and is administered by the Pledge Nature Reserve Trust Nowadays it is hard to believe that less than a century ago this green heart of Knysna had been reduced to a brickfield and thereafter used as a dumping ground, which sullied the once clear streams. Concerned townsfolk were instrumental in having the Reserve proclaimed and negotiated a long term lease with the Knysna Municipality. What followed was a concerted and eventually highly successful, attempt to eradicate alien vegetation and restore the place to its original natural splendour.

Plettenberg Bay Community Environment Forum

The Plettenberg Bay Community Environment Forum is a registered non-profit organization, made up of a group of concerned individuals and environmental organizations. The Forum has been involved in the protection of the environment and promotion of sustainable development in the Bitou Municipal area (Plettenberg Bay and surrounds) since 1996.

Plett Hope Spot

What a wonderful place we live in! Gorgeous beaches, mountains, rivers, fynbos, forest and ocean – a natural wonderland with wonderful people, what more can we ask for? Plett has everything going for it and that is one of the reasons why Plett has been chosen as one of only six international Hope Spots in South Africa – an exciting global initiative that we can now be a part of. And the reality is, that we can be the best Hope Spot in the world not only because of the natural beauty that is Plett, but also because of the dynamic, innovative people that live here.

ORCA Foundation

The ORCA Foundation is part of a volunteer community dedicated to marine conservation in South Africa, and like many conservation projects depends on the willingness of others to contribute their time and dedication to furthering the volunteer and conservation ethics that go hand in hand for a better future.

Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa

WESSA is a leading implementer of high-impact environmental and conservation initiatives in South Africa. We are a trusted and effective project partner with a proud, 90 year history of enabling individuals and organisations to use natural resources sustainably. The priority areas of our work include the international eco-labels of Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Green Key; environmental education and skills development training; the conservation of life-supporting biodiversity and water resources; climate change mitigation and adaptation; and environmental governance.
