This is a wonderful meander along the Buffels River surrounded by the Tsitsikamma indigenous forest that the Garden Route is famous for. The trail is 3 km long and takes 3 to 3.5 hours to complete. This is not a hike, but rather a slow walk through the forest as we take everything in and investigate as we go along. Your guide has over 20 years of experience in conservation and guiding and, as such, your walk will be fully interpretive and interactive, no two walks are ever the same.
COST: R140 per person, maximum of 10 on walk ( cost includes a half-point snack pack and a cold drink at the end)
BRING: Closed shoes, suntan lotion, mosquito repellent, camera, binoculars, walking stick (if you want), water.
EXTRA NOTES: This is not a strenuous walk at all, but there is a steep downhill to get to the river, and a steep uphill to get back out of the valley. Walking along the river we cross several times on the stones so some balance is required. I have had from 6 to 80-year-olds on this walk without a problem.
DIRECTIONS: From Plettenberg Bay travel North on the N2 for approximately 15 km to a turnoff on your right-hand side called Askop Road (there are also signs to Hog Hollow and Antlers). Turn in and follow this road for approximately 2.5 km and you will get to Brackenburn Private Nature Reserve. Please close the gate behind you as you enter! As you drive in, take the right-hand fork which will take you down to a white cottage and an old shed. We will meet there for the start of the walk.
